The Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge consists mainly of private properties, therefore it is the responsibility of all the owners to preserve this sanctuary. For our part, we purchased one hectare in 1999, entirely cleared of undergrowth, only the trees of big size and some giant rainforest trees had been spared. Since then, we are proud to have planted more than 30 trees and 40 palm trees and a large variety of plants native to this area, recreating a new natural habitat for multitudes of birds, butterflies, insects... enriching the micro biodiversity. Half of the property is devoted to natural regeneration of the forest. We encourage all the owners to do likewise. |
